Mâs Monumental Buenos Aires: A New Era for Argentina

Estadio Monumental, Argentina's largest stadium, is commonly referred to as El Monumental or River Plate Stadium. El Monumental has been in the pipeline for some time. CA River Plate plays its home games there and is one of the most successful clubs in Argentina. In 2011, they presented the idea of the "River Plate Forum." The River Plate Forum involves the removal of athletics tracks and the roofing of the stands. The first initial step was taken back in August 2020.

The Club has the first and only hybrid grass (turf) playing field with heating and aeration systems in the country. This was completed in February 2021.
Once phase one of the construction work has been completed, the next stage will begin where a new lower level of stands on the west side will be built. This will add more seats and additional parking spaces.  installation of more seats on the old stands and the creation of additional parking spaces. This renovation is planned for July 2024.
Their main goal is to increase the stadium's seating-to-standing room ratio from 55 to 45% to 79 to 21%.
The cost is expected to be $45 million and the stadium's naming rights have been sold, rebranding it as Mâs Monumental. Revenue is expected to increase as well as the spectators, becoming the largest in all  of South America.

  1. This is a great and very interesting post! I think the statistics are very interesting and appreciate the inclusion of those. Because of these stats, I think that it will provide a great increase in revenue for the CA River Plate and Buenos Aires. The capacity of the seating is upgrading and the ratios are increasing, which is all great stats for improvement of revenue. I will look forward to keeping up with these figures! Parking is also great, and I think that ease of transport will be great to host more visitors. Along that line, I am curious about the public transport at this stadium. With the increase in visitors, has there been any upgrade to this sort of transportation? - Kathleen

    1. Hi. Thanks for your comment! So far, there has not been any upgrade to public transportation at this stadium. It was a big stadium prior and they have not changed that aspect yet. However, I am interested as well to see if they upgrade it because of the amount of people.
